Josh’s Hope Foundation was established in loving memory of Joshua McCabe Bailey, who at the age of 20 was murdered by a group of young men on July 29, 2008, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Josh had lifelong mental-health issues and learning disabilities, as well as recurring substance-abuse issues in the last two years of his life. Josh was also a loving, creative, joyful and adventurous young man who had hopes and dreams for his own future.

Like many people living with mental illness, Josh’s disabilities made him vulnerable to victimization. He was struggling to transition to adulthood and independent living, but the obstacles were many and the community supports were few. Josh’s family believes that had he had the skills, tools and resources to make this transition, he would be alive today and living a fulfilling life.

At Josh’s Hope, we believe that all young people struggling with mental-health issues deserve the support and resources they need to build a rewarding life. We want to remove obstacles and create opportunities for them. Join us.
